The SPEY Tenné is a single malt from the Speyside Distillery, owned by Harvey's of Edinburgh. It is initially aged in bourbon casks before enjoying a 6 month finishing period in Tawny Port casks, giving a subtle ruby hue and vibrant, fruit-filled flavour profile.
Always try and have one of these in my cabinet, so smooth even my wife enjoys it with a splash of water.
Was taken by the bottle to be honest, yes I know that's stupid but hey ho. Have to say it is an easy enough drink, maybe a little too sweet for my personal liking. Not much after taste and a little bit oily if you know what I mean. Probably wouldn't buy it again
This is a very different malt to the original expression. Not bad, as such, but no longer the belter it was. The colour is very pale by comparison with the deep crimson of the previous Tenne, likewise the flavour is missing the huge port pipe punch the previous version provided. So for an unaged expression it has little to separate from the average, sadly just an overpriced shadow of a great malt, will not buy again, there is much better for less.
I'm not a full-blown whisky connoisseur but I much prefer Scots single malts to blends and this was recommended by the manager at the Balavil Hotel in Newtonmore - just down the road from the distillery - as a good easy drinker. He was right and the bonus is that my partner and I can both enjoy it - she doesn't get on with heavier peated ones. We enjoyed it so much I bought 2 more bottles.
Drunk this gorgeous bottle with the neighbours for the queen's platinum jubilee, went down a storm 10/10.
