This stunning Speyburn was matured in American oak and Spanish oak casks for 18 years before being bottled at 40% ABV. This bottling is dedicated to Speyburn’s distillery manager Bobby Anderson, as in a happy coincidence 2018 is his 18th year at the distillery.
Rich toffee, sugar coated almonds and sweet, fresh tropical fruits alongside toffee apples and whispers of smoke.
Luxurious melted dark chocolate, balanced by a hint of citrus and a touch of oak spiciness.
Very smoky, long and slightly bittersweet.
It's a pity the distillery reduced the ABV of the 15 and the 18 from 46% to 40%.
It’s a proper 18 year old whiskey for sure. Has the kick, has the taste, has the warmth. Maybe not 83GBP they ask usually, but for 72GBP, a good bargain.
Can see why this is getting 5 star ratings. Smooth and tasty with a nice mouth feel. Recommended.
