Smooth Ambler's Big Level has been hotly anticipated - it's a lip-smacking wheated bourbon that was produced entirely at the distillery in West Virginia. While previously expressions released by Smooth Ambler have been sourced from elsewhere or have been whiskey made in-house blended with whiskey from further afield, this is all whiskey crafted by Smooth Ambler's hands. It's made with a mashbill of 71% corn, 21% wheat, 8% malted barley, and is aged in 53-gallon barrels with a #4 char for at least 5 years.
Cooked blackcurrants and raspberries, buttery shortbread, a touch of honey, soft oak heat developing alongside waxy peels.
Caramelised nuts, more red berry sweetness, a dusting of cinnamon, chewy toffee, sponge cake, baking spices.
Subtly floral on the finish, though brown sugar and soft fruit notes continue.
