That Boutique-y Whisky Company
Single Malt
It's That Boutique-y Whisky Company's first ever bottling of Bavarian single malt whisky! This was distilled by Slyrs in Schliersee, and matured for 3 years before the Boutique-y bunch bottled it up. The label features an Oktoberfest beer hall with a big ol' boat and a whole crowd of people enjoying Bavarian beers - and whiskies! The Slyrs Head Distiller can be seen chatting to a very familiar-looking chap in the crowd - "Bist du der Whisky-Mixer?"
This is a release of 691 bottles.
‘That Boutique-y Whisky Company’ bottles single malts, single grains and bourbons from a variety of renowned distilleries as well as producing award-winning blended malts and blends. These whiskies are adorned with cultish graphic novel-style labels.
Vanilla custard, Mr. Kipling's Bramley Apple Pies, stewed plums and some dried hay.
Fragrant barley, crème brûlée, oat biscuits, lemongrass and some Sichuan pepper.
Cinnamon and ginger, with a little stone fruit sweetness right at the end.
Setting off particularly malty and vanilla/cereal/warm bread laden at first, little later opening up for more dry fruits, caramel, honey, autumn oven apple and gentle charred oak. Tiny details of citrus, pineapple and coconut from what I suppose was an ex-bourbon casking. Lively as can be expected from a distillate this age, never sharp ABV though … Remaining malt and cereal forward on the palate before dry orchard fruits show up alongside plenty of vanilla, caramel, honey (slightly herbal), a particular growth in pepper and oak char … Sweet all palate through, only a tiny bit of citrus from the nose left. Room for growth when speaking maturity, an accessible and pleasant palate nevertheless, the high ABV works along nicely. My first Slyrs – and German for that matter I believe – dram ever so I wouldn’t dare speak of typical characteristics on this distillery. What I can say is that agrees with the stated age as for maturity, the balance and diversified flavor package is right there already.
Definitely vanilla on the nose giving it the sweet smell but not overpowering. HOT on the palate and does lack a certain sweetness to fully balance it out. Some water needed to soften it and it gets more balanced but very hot still. Might be an interesting pick for those who like to take a break from Scotch or Bourbon.
That looks like the "Fischer Vroni" beer hall on the label. Well done! 1,2,3.....gsuffa.. ..;-) 5 stars for the label! Not tried yet the whisky, but promise to do!
If you look at the casks that are released at the same time as this - you'll see that there was also a 6yo, and that the 3yo was a 'crocodile char' one. Just saying.
