Slanj

This is the first edition of blended malt Scotch whisky from Slanj. The blend combines a generous helping of oloroso and Pedro Ximénez sherry cask matured Speyside single malt with bourbon barrel-aged Highland single malt for a warming array of sweet fruit cake spice and creamy oaken vanilla. Enjoy this neat or stir up some classy cocktails, and be sure to say 'Slanj' (Cheers) before you sip them! The tasting notes below were provided by the one and only Charles MacLean.
The nose - led by fruit loaf, backed by walnuts and kitchen spices - immediately reveals the high use of European oak ex-sherry casks. After a while, the aroma broadens into fruit cake, with raisins and sultanas, on a distinctly buttery base (crumpet with melted butter?). Well integrated: a Highland nose, with no phenolic or maritime notes.
A creamy, full-bodied texture and a taste which starts sweet (with a suggestion of dates) and finishes medium-length and surprisingly spicy (powdered ginger?) and somewhat mouth-cooling (Sichuan pepper). A drop of water softens the mouth-feel and reduces the sweetness and spiciness.
A pleasant full-bodied blended malt, with a well-matured and well-integrated flavour profile, and a distinct personality. Congratulations to your blenders!

The sherry influence is undeniable and adds a lovely raisin tone. Sweet and spicy, it's a charming sipper that is perfect on its own but equally at home in a stirred cocktail
