Big Peat's gone and got himself a trusty sidekick in the shape of a dapper Fox Terrier wearing a monocle! Scallywag from Douglas Laing is a vatted malt made from Speyside whiskies, including Mortlach, Macallan and Glenrothes. Many of the whiskies used in the small batch release come from Spanish sherry butts, giving Scallywag a fab sweetness that's balanced by some "mischievous" bourbon cask whisky also in the blend.
Sweetness jumps up like an excited puppy. Icing sugar, sultanas and candied ginger. A few hints of grain here and there, but sweetness steals the show.
The sweetness surprisingly retreats, revealing nutmeg and cereal. Vanilla comes in near the end. Cinnamon too, giving it a prickle of spice.
A pinch of oak spice joins the vanilla and sherry for the finish.
Incredibly pleasant, the Scallywag is an absolute treat in every sense.

A lot of sweetness breaks into nutty corn flakes with vanilla and cream. lots of spice as it goes over to a nice sherried finish, but still leaving that sweetness in mouth. incredibly adictive once mouth gets used to it. top dog. struth
Wow. This is a Speyside whisky with charm, character and depth in abundance. An ideal balance of barley, chocolate and allspice.
Delighted you are now stocking this beauty of a Malt Whisky. It’s a wonderfully balanced Malt with a sweet, cereal quality with chocolate and sherry. It’s pretty special and highly recommended
I cannot believe that this is not at least twice the price, more even. Superb, gorgeous. The nose is transfixing, I linger over it; there is a lot of taste exploration. I preferred it over the 10 year old Scallywag, which surprised me.
Incredible whisky. So elegant and refined with huge depth and character. Delicious and delightful
