Douglas Laing
Scotland
Douglas Laing's Rock Island bottles the epitome of the Scottish Islands. The blend marries a plethora of Island whiskies, with malts from Islay, Arran, Orkney and Jura. The whisky has been bottled at a rather specific 46.8% ABV, and of course without colouring or chillfiltration. If you think this sounds all a bit familiar, the blended malt was previously dubbed 'Rock Oyster', though the name was changed because it turns out there's an awful lot of people who don't like oysters. Not to worry, it's the exact same great maritime whisky!
Wind-swept beaches, coastal peat and a hint of ash, complimented by touches of green fruit.
Yet more sea breeze, with oat cake crumbs, growing spicy notes of cracked black pepper and a deft whiff of peat smoke. Hints of vanilla here and there.
Salinity lasts on the finish along with peppery warmth.

Probably the worst bottle of whisky I have tasted since that hideous single-grain thing which some footballer patronised. Really, very awful. Drain-scourer. Never again.
Sorry, do not buy this "blend" I think you will be very disappointed
This has become a firm favourite and I am now onto my second bottle. If you love smoke, a coastal - maritime style and a bit of peat this is for you…, complex and well balanced.
Love the sea and soil combo. The slightly smoky and peaty blends so well with this organic mix on the nose and tongue. Long finish adds even further value to the experience. For those who enjoy unique this is it!
I would only use this to clean my toilet and I don't think it would work. I was impressed with the packaging and the explanation of what was in the bottle. I'm 71 have drank malts and Blends for ???years. This is rank. No colour and even when I gave my customers a dram FREE they said no and spat it out. TCP is what they called it.
