A rye whiskey in the Pennsylvania style, this "carries a famous old Philadelphia name". Very tasty and aromatic.
Dried fruits and soft spices. Cocoa and butterscotch, alongside orange peel, cinnamon and caramel.
Thick, fruity palate with chocolate oranges, cassia bark, nutmeg and oak.
Tangy fruit and quite coppery. Marmalade and spice.
Wow a great find. Had other Ryes but this is the best. A big single malt fan but this holds its own.
My favourite whiskies are heavily peated Scotches, but I continue to explore. Generally I hate bourbon. Just too sweet. Same with Scotches aged in new American oak. But I quite like rye. I’ve bought a few Bottles of Wild Turkey rye lately, quite like it with coke. I usually don’t mix, but I like this combination. Saw Rittenhouse rye for the first time, and despite it being (in Australia) nearly twice the price, I gave it a go. The guy in the bottle shop said "it’ll knock your head off", but he had no idea what my favourites are (Ardbeg, Lagavoulin etc). This Rittenhouse is by far the best American whiskey I have ever tried! It is just fabulous, with a depth, complexity and lasting finish to compare with a good single malt Scotch! The Wild Turkey tastes like crap now! And no, I won’t be mixing it. (I did actually try. What a waste!). Superb!
This is a fantastic rye whiskey which i have ever tried. Like the after taste, strong grass and dried fruits flavour which stayed for a while. You get the punch just with the first sip and asking for more thereafter!
Best I've tasted and excellent for an old fashioned or a Manhattan. But at $90+ a bottle in Australia, it's definitely for special occasions only. Any liquor in Australia is 3 to 4 times more expensive.
It is a good rye whiskey. Thank you :0)
