This is the Lost Monarch whiskey from Redwood Empire, based in Sonoma County, California. It's a whiskey of two sides, being made with a blend of a rye whiskey and a bourbon whiskey, resulting in a well-balanced expression packed full of cinnamon, buttered corn, and caramel notes. This expression was named after the world's largest coastal redwood tree, which is cool. Big trees are great and that's a fact. Take it to the bank.
Chocolate mousse, caramel cooking in a pan, peppery rye spiciness in the background.
Heavy vanilla, still backed up by warming spice and buttered corn.
Toffee ice cream with a drizzle of chocolate sauce, cinnamon, dry oak.
Great pour. Can taste the separate parts from the bourbon and rye blend. Really well balanced. Would think a barrel proof of this would be incredible as it is a little thin but the flavours are still great. Easy to drink and interesting.
