Rebel Small Batch Reserve Whiskey 70cl

Great 6 year old wheated bourbon!

Thought this was a very poor bourbon. Wouldn’t recommend it at all, just very harsh with not a lot going out. Ended up just using it in cocktails to try use it. bulleit/makers, much better option at a better price.

At this price I mean, I don't know. It's a wheater and all of those are rare over here in europe except for maker's so there's going to be a markup. Still it's on the affordable side and it's 45.3%.
The smell is delightful, none of that alcohol stink.
As for the taste, well it's on the rough side, not unlike buffalo trace. But the more you drink it, the more you find new notes, at first I was only getting the obvious stuff like apples and cinamon/barrel spices and freshly baked bread smell (when it's still hot and you crack the loaf open). But as I continued to sip it, it opened up all the way and I ended up with licorice and cherry tomatoes.
And what's peculiar with this one is that there's no throat finish like the rest, it stays on your tongue for some reason. So when you're done sipping the saliva that starts building up is making a cocktail of its own and releases more flavour. There's also some kind of smell backdraft you can get from your tongue to your nose.
That's a pretty unique way to enjoy every single sip from different angles and the fact that the flavour keeps changing with each sip makes it most interesting.
So yeah while the taste itself isn't refined, it's tons of fun to sip and enjoy, good simple fun. If you only care for taste then you'll feel this is hugely lacking and maybe even ripped off. But if you milk all it has to offer? damn is this a full package! I'd be on the fence if this wasn't so wide, but now I'm definitely on the good side of the fence. For this price this is a rare experience!
Maybe I'm biased because I'm a sucker for wheaters, but in europe at this price getting this much of a trip out of a (currently) 33.54€ bottle? yeah I'm giving it 4.5 because of its potential.
Sure Eagle Rare or Knob Creek (depending on your preferences) are more solid choices if you just want to relax to a good drink, but you won't get that wide range of fun things.

I think this bourbon got a bad rap when it came out. A lot of folks dismissed it because it was Rebel Yell and they remember that from college days. This is an enjoyable day drinker and quite a bit better then just about anything under $30. If you are a wheated bourbon fan, such as Weller or Pappy, try and get your hands on a bottle of this. Unfortunately, they ceased production of this bourbon about a month ago. It does not look like it is going to come back. The interesting thing is that after this is gone, I get the feeling people will be looking for it, and it will become a hard to get item and become rather pricey. But I could be wrong. If you find one, you will probably enjoy it, if you like we did Bourbons.
