Powers Gold Label is a classic Irish whiskey, introduced in 1791 by John Power & Son. Once a single pot still whiskey, it's long since been a blend of pot still and grain whiskeys. Powers have reintroduced single pot still Irish whiskey to their range, however, with their John's Lane Release.
Super sweet shortbread notes, with honeysuckle and tangerine peel.
Buttery shortbread, cereal, pears and a little milk chocolate.
Short and mouthwatering, the spices shine through in waves with honey lingering to the end.

Smooth and delicious - it also doesn't hurt that my Great Grandmother - who died when I was 12 - lived with us and her father was Michael Power. He came to America in the 1850's. Great Grandmother was born in 1866 in Winona, MN, and died in 1964 in CA.
I sell this one for about $35 for a liter. Usually I drink single malt scotches but the really nice dark color of this one drew me in. It is similar to Jameson Black Barrel but the body is fuller and a bit more complex. Really nice smooth finish, a touch of sweetness, a bit smoky, a bit sweet, and a bit earthy. Usually for me Irish whiskeys are not complex enough but this one came out well being aged in a bourbon barrel. The bottles I have are actually 86.4 proof not 80 proof. I had to grab the bottle and look when I saw this said it was 80 proof because I could just tell it was a bit higher. For a liter of whiskey under $40 you can't do much better.
This is truly a great whiskey. Full flavored, and just the right amount of time in the barrel for maturation. I love scotch whiskey, but I have to say this Irish whiskey is truly superlative. Give it a try.
