    Powers Gold Label

Powers Gold Label is a classic Irish whiskey, introduced in 1791 by John Power & Son. Once a single pot still whiskey, it's long since been a blend of pot still and grain whiskeys. Powers have reintroduced single pot still Irish whiskey to their range, however, with their John's Lane Release.

Surprised- but not in a good way

I hear many good things about the Powers John Lane edition, but have a hard time finding that around me, so I tried Powers Gold. Gave a straight pour and let it sit for about 10 minutes before sipping. Maybe I got a bad batch because it wasn't at all what others here describe. Mine was relatively tasteless and lots of alcohol burn. It struck me as sort of an "it burns my throat so it must be good", which is not at all my type of whiskey. Really can't imagine enjoying this as a sipping whiskey. I will give it another try as I still have the bottle, but I am dubious.

    A Sweet Easy Whiskey

I have for many years drank all types of whisky and have been a member of the SMW Society in the past. I have owned part of a Springbank cask since 1997 and have drank most expensive and cheap whiskies there are . The John Powers Gold Blend is a very good light and sweet easy drinking whiskey and has a nice memory. Having lived and worked in Ireland for many years it remains a very popular drink throughout Ireland in most drinking and eating establishments. Buy it and Try it !!

    Lacks Flavor

Really did not have mich flavor at all. I suppose you could consider that smooth, but I really wouldn’t spend money on Gold Label again. It resembles the sort of flavor you get when your ice cubes melt and mix with the last little slash of whiskey you had left.

Great for sipping, medicine and cocktails

i'm 5th generation Murphy in that we've only drunk Powers. It's smooth and richly aromatic, best value of all Irish whiskeys in the marketplace imho.

    Why such a price hike.

Hi I am originally from nth Ireland now resident in England. Last year before Christmas I purchased 6 bottles John powers at an off-licence £17 per bottle. I was recently in Wolverhampton and saw bottles of the same for £25.99 per bottle.
