Another incredible expression from the Port Ellen Untold Stories Series, this time feature 40 year old (!) single malt from the legendary closed distillery on the south coast of Islay. This expression has been named 9 Rogue Casks, and as you might expect, it was drawn from nine casks that were deemed rogue. Like the previous release in the Untold Stories Series, this is one of the oldest Port Ellen whiskies to make its way to shelves! Bottled at cask strength, only 1,380 bottles were produced.
Delicate, grassy/herbal, burnt tangerine skin, very mild smoke at cask strength, opens up a little with the addition of water, crème caramel/roasted coffee, red fruit compote, ripe peach skin.
Much more pronounced bonfire smoke, pope tobacco, leather, wood spice.
Long, wispy smoke finish.

Utterly superb. Beguiling. Completely unique. I was lucky enough to try a dram of this at The Whisky Show: once tasted, never forgotten. The only downside being that several other very good whiskies tasted subsequently that day seemed fairly drab by comparison. This sets the bar absurdly high.
