Distilled at Penderyn in 2011, this Welsh single malt spent the next decade maturing in a single bourbon cask (#251). The cask was cracked open in 2022, yielding a total of 201 bottles, exclusively for us here at Master of Malt! It's wild and wonderful. We seriously recommend you imbibe.
Lemon meringue pie, cherry drops, cinnamon, mango, caramelised banana, chartreuse, brioche, white wine, and Rosey Apple sweets.
Baking spices, frangipane/almond croissant, syrupy tropical fruit juice (like you'd get from a tin of pineapple), another handful of Rosey Apples, some soft rocky minerality, and brandy snaps. It's like drinking an apple crumble made by Oliver Reed.
The liquorice/aniseed edge remains with more fruity sweetness and rich buttery pastry goodness.
Penderyn is ok whisky. Whisky which is mostly sold on its Welshness. But when there are now better Welsh distilleries out there you have to ask why anyone would be putting this much money into a 10yo offering.
