Old Forester Bourbon was the first to be sold in America in sealed glass bottles, to avoid any unsavoury folks tampering with their carefully-considered recipe. It was first seen on shelves back in 1870, and the rye-rich bourbon continues to be enjoyed today.
Top notes of orange blossom and cedar. Soon develops the classic rye bread warmth and a lingering waft of buttered pancakes.
Starts quite sweet with caramel and maple syrup, though swiftly develops intense oak-y elements and hints of pine resin. Sweetness returns slightly on the mid-palate.
Juicy orange and spicy oak continue on the finish.
Bourbon doesn't get made for over 140 years without it being pretty great, so it's unsurprising that Old Forester is, well, pretty darn great!

I like my bourbon over ice, simple. I was excited to try this, but man, what a crock! Cant taste any rye. Cant taste any complexity. There is certainly no oakiness. Can taste a sweetness, like that in green coke-a-cola, followed by an emptiness, like when you realise you paid £34.43 for a £12 bottle. I love Bulleit and Elijah Craig, this is nothing like either, its not even as subtle as JD. Its like comparing Haig Club with Talisker. I'm putting this in pepsi max... for this price I could have 3 bottles of Jim Beam.... And who wouldn't prefer that to this!
This is a thoroughly enjoyable bourbon for the price. Compared to Elijah Craig, it's not as spicy and compared to Bulleit Bourbon, it's not as complex. It's has a solid character with a maple syrup, vanilla, raisin and dried orange/lemon peel aroma (personally, I don't get any of the banana notes and I think it's different from any Tennessee whiskey I've tried - especially considering how smooth it is in comparison). It's the bourbon I keep coming back to in an Old Fashioned.
A pleasant whisky. Not sweet at all, rather dry in fact. Compared to Woodford reserve or Knob Creek, it lacks complexity and aftertaste. I will probably try something different next time.
Wow what a find I loved this bourbon . Yes it is a little sweet but that appeals to me as I like bourbon neat or over ice . Would highly recommend this bourbon for anyone
My god this is sweet. It's like a dessert bourbon. I will not be able to finish this bottle without mixing in other ingredients to make it taste better. Unless you like your bourbon really sweet, may want to look elsewhere.
