Nikka Whisky From The Barrel was first launched in 1985 and has been stealing hearts ever since. Built from a marriage of malt and grain whiskies, largely drawn from Nikka’s Yoichi and Miyagikyo distilleries, it is bottled at a forthright 51.4% ABV because anything less would miss the point. The compact, rectangular bottle reflects its concept, "a small block of whisky", but this rich, oily expression has always punched above its size.
This product does not meet all the criteria of "Japanese whisky" defined by the Japan Spirits & Liqueur Makers Association. You can read more on our blog.
Medium-body with good balance. There are notes of cut flowers and fresh fruits, spice, and a little oak.
Full-bodied and punchy. There is plenty of winter spice and toffee, a little caramel and vanilla, and a good mouthful of fruit.
Long, warming and fruity with a little oaken spice.

Warming and long..sweet caramel with toffee delight...long finish of malt and fire and fudge! Love it...difficult to compare with Scottish.. so subtlety different.
Nose: Sweet floral scents, spices, brown sugar, cocoa, acetone : Taste: First it hits you with an incredibly complex mix of fresh tobacco, leather and spices which one can mistake as smoky or peaty. Soon notes of dried fruits, vanilla and toffee take over. The musky lingering aftertaste with nutmeg and cinnamon is strong but pleasant. Sweet, complex and punchy. I discover something new every time.
It's an OK whisky, the MoM tasting notes are fairly accurate, but there are plenty of other whiskies out there that offer an equal or better experience at a much lower price
RE - Not what I expected You are an idiot! Nikka FtB is an exceptional Japanese Whisky, and holds its own vs any Scotch you care to compare it to. You only need to know & understand whisky and its plethora of nuance to know this Nikka from the Barrel is amongst the very best ever made
Another excellent Japensese blend. Really rich toffee notes, deep and oily. Well worth a bottle!
