New Riff uses 100% malted rye to make this Kentucky straight whiskey, and this edition finished its six-year maturation in a host of oloroso and Pedro Ximénez sherry casks. Malting the rye brings a gentle mellowness to the prominent spice character you'd normally expect from a rye, coupled with the decadent fruit and spice character from the casks, it's an excellent and unusual sipper.
Vinous fruit, zesty dried peels, toasted oak, and brown sugar lead to spiced cookies, and some herbaceous, savoury notes beneath.
Softly sweet layers of peach and apricot, with marmalade, cinnamon, and rich sherry sweetness backed by hints of leathery oak.
Sweet stone fruits, jammy cherries, warming, cakey spice.
