Nc’nean Huntress 2026 - Malted Teacake

Nc’nean Huntress Malted Teacake is the fifth release in the experimental Huntress series, inspired by the Gaelic goddess who gave the brand its name: Neachneohain. The range echoes her singular outlook, and as far as Malted Teacake is concerned, you can probably guess what flavour direction the brand went in. It’s made up of whisky distilled between 2019 and 2022, fermented using Anchor, Fermentis, and Belgian Ale Yeast.

This is very much a fermentation experiment inspired by Scotch whisky’s past. Aged in 50% STR red wine, 48% bourbon and 2% oloroso sherry casks, the standard house style barrel selection, it boasts notes of baked cake, fig marmalade, and hot buttered toast. A total of 4,386 bottles were filled at 48.5% ABV. As usual with Nc’nean, it’s 100% organic Scottish barley, 100% renewable-powered copper stills, and 100% recycled glass bottles, vegan, gluten-free, and B-Corp certified.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose

Warm sponge cake, toasted marshmallow, and buttered brioche, with a generous smear of fig jam and orange marmalade. There’s also vanilla cream, soft oak, and a hint of red berry sweetness from those STR wine casks.

Palate

Malted teacake lands exactly as promised, think fluffy cake, sticky fig, and honeyed toast, followed by layers of caramel, sultana, and a touch of milk chocolate. Flashes of orchard fruit, light citrus peel, and a tiny sour tang keep it from getting too cosy.

Finish

Dried fruit and sweet malt fade into gentle oak, a whisper of nutmeg, and a final flicker of marmalade brightness.
