Mortlach Special Strength comes from the 2014 relaunch of Mortlach's range, though was originally released for the Travel Retail market. This has been bottled at 49% ABV, which brings out plenty of intense fruit, spice and herbaceous elements to the fore.
Big vanilla pod, chewy raisin and a good touch of meatiness.
Valencia orange, Crunchie bars (honeycomb and chocolate), tobacco and continued meaty notes.
A little wisp of smoke and apricot sweetness.

A true whiskey as we like them. Moreover, despite its 49%, it retains all its flavors
Nose: Pina colada but with mango instead of pineapple, and coconut. Taste was a little tobacco/cigarette ash and a hint cold strong assam (tannin)... coffee?... then syrupy/oily caramel with a bit of pepper at the finish. I think this could become one of my favourites. A few drops of water and it opened up nicely... however I really enjoy the strength (49%)
