Run for your lives, it's the Beast of Dufftown!!! Fortunately (despite the terrifying creature adorning the label of this first batch of Boutique-y Mortlach) it's actually the whisky itself that's known as a beast, not some abominable giant hell demon you should be in mortal terror if you ever visit Speyside! The name comes from the whisky's robust, muscular character.
Batch 1 is a release of just 89 bottles.
‘That Boutique-y Whisky Company’ bottles single malts, single grains, bourbons, blended malts and blends from a variety of renowned distilleries. These whiskies are adorned with cultish graphic novel-style labels.
Stewed apples, rich tea biscuits and damson at first, before a rather surprising touch of Peshwari naan straight from the kitchen. Old, laminated oak and meatiness soon develop.
Sugared almonds, black tea and oak once again. Crème caramel and Werther's Original sweets. After a few minutes, the oak notes start to become slightly smoky...
...and said smokiness continues on to the finish, along with a subtle waft of cigar box.
A top Mortlach that develops more and more in the glass.
