The oldest of three Mortlach single malts unveiled in mid-2018 (alongside the Mortlach 12 Year Old and Mortlach 16 Year Old), this expression matured for 20 years exclusively in sherry casks. Intensely flavoursome stuff (as we've come to expect from Mortlach).
Roast chestnuts and tobacco, swiftly joined by dense chocolate and red berry richness. Just a whisper of meaty malt underneath.
Clove and brandy butter arrive first, before chewy dates, orange peel, mature oak and Hobnob biscuits.
Lasting Christmas spice and a touch of cooked summer berries.
Absolutely fantastic dram bought a bottle too keep , but it had a small leak so opened it , will be hard to go back to 12 year malts now
One of the best in its class. I'd give it a nod above it's benchmark, the Macallan 18 Sherry Oak and put it right right in line with the Lagavulin 16 and JW Blue for pure drinking pleasure.
Momentarily (for me) the strength has a minor hit but immediately turns to a velvety, rich and warm drink. It was a gift to me from a great friend when my Dad died and some of his ashes will be spread from the box. It's a whisky I didn't get to share with him and know he'd have loved it.
This is pure luxury, no harshness at all, it just evaporates in your mouth. Yes, as someone else said, do not add water.
Gorgeous whisky. Rich, smooth and full flavour.
