Who doesn't love to see single malt from Mortlach? This one was distilled in 2007 and filled into a hogshead before being treated to a finish in an oloroso sherry butt. The folks at Signatory opened up the cask in July 2022, harvesting a total of 686 bottles for the Cask Strength Collection.
Sweet tobacco and spiced fruitcake lead with candied ginger in support.
Salted caramel, honey-roasted nuts, and orange peel with a touch of dried herbs.
Warming oak spice, followed by prunes.

This is a fantastic whisky with lots of going. I'm renowned for having a terrible sense of smell so please disagree with me if necessary here! Initially getting a hit of peppermint flowed by flapjack on the nose. In the mouth things start of sweet and toffee-like, before dried raisins and baked fruit join in. Then a tobacco quality arrives before a finish of wood and pepper that lingers. An excellent sipping drop for the colder months.
