This is a 12 year old single malt produced at the Mortlach distillery in Speyside, unveiled in 2018 as part of a trio (including a 16 Year Old and a 20 Year Old). This particular expression features the subtitle The Wee Witchie, which comes from the name of the tiny still that distils a portion of the whisky. It's drawn from bourbon and sherry casks, and packs a hearty punch of meaty Mortlach-y malt at its core, supported by dried fruit and toffee notes.
Damson, toasted almond, cinder toffee and heavy barley.
Warming oak and soft raisins, with a bit of olive oil salinity mixed in.
A bit jammy, a bit nutty, some lingering citrus oils cutting through.

When the most remarkable thing about a whisky turns out to be the shape of the bottle you know you're in trouble. It's not that there's anything fundamentally wrong about this expression, it's just that it's distinctly underwhelming with not a lot happening in the mouth and very little in the way of finish. I was disappointed, especially given the number of positive reviews.

Heard a lot about Mortlach so opted for a bottle...disappointing is an understatement. Nose is mild and without much by means of interest, palate is incredibly mundane and very cheap tasting, finish is decent but again one dimensional. I've tasted blended malts way cheaper that are way better, this stuff is poor and I could not recommend it to anyone. So much better out there at this price but, even if this was 10% of its current retail, I still wouldn't buy it again.
Bit disappointed by this one, as it clearly has colorant added (the colour is as convincing as a certain President’s tan) and also is chill-filtered. I disagree with those who fins the texture full and rich, it is on the thin side in my opinion. Taste is OK, smell even better. Especially after 15-20 minutes in the glass it opens up nicely. Easy on the water as it gets too thin too quickly. Mortlach should skip the fake colour and chill-filtration and they would have a far better product.
Delicious! Sweet & oily. Rich 12, spicy holiday flavors. Raisins and toffee. Nice body, def not light in consistency. Mortlach is thick and heavy by volume. One of the best.
