You know the name Michter's, but John Shenk might not be as familiar to you. He was actually the person who founded the distillery that would later become Michter's in the 20th century, way back in 1753. Today, he's honoured with this Kentucky sour mash whiskey, made with a high rye mashbill. A portion of the 2022 release was aged in toasted French oak barrels that were made from 24-month air-dried wood sourced from the Vosges region and selected by Michter's master of maturation Andrea Wilson. It was bottled at 45.6% ABV.
Rich molasses and baking spice lead with citrus, mint, honey, and dried fruit in support.
Peach, butterscotch, and candied orange peel are joined by notes of caraway and fennel seed as well as some barrel char.
Spicy and rich.
