A blended malt from Michel Couvreur, who gets Scotch whisky sent over to France to be aged in Sherry oak casks in Burgundy before blending. Quite unusual, but very intriguing.
Never knew about French whiskey but glad I do now. I loved this sweet tasty style. Lovely long aftertaste.
The contents are perfectly nice. But then they ruined it. A bottle that is supposed to take a screw top is instead corked, and dipped in some sort of hard solid wax. Not something peel-able like Makers, but heat gun, putty knife and razor, in the basement, with the cork smoking. Not sure how this enhances the experience. Not worth it for yourself, and only give to your frenemies.
First of all lets be honest. It is certainly not worth $180 from the Bottle House, South Yarra, Melbourne. However, what we did experience is a surprisingly refined taste & flavour with a sweet finish. We also loved the associated romance with opening a wax coated corked bottle. (bit of a pain in the arse actually). Overall this a bold distinctive fusion whiskey with raw ingredients from Scotland and casked in French sherry oak. It is not for the faint hearted, this a strong robust peaty smooth adventurous whiskey worth trying. I'll be keeping a close watch for any new products from Michel's.
Quite interesting to experience such sweetness with a small dose of peat. I will be trying more of Michel's creations.
