You can learn a lot about a whiskey from its mash bill – it breaks down the types of grain used by a distiller, which can have a huge influence on the final spirit produced. This blend of American rye whiskeys celebrates that fact, by proudly displaying its mash bill on the label. Oh and also by having the name Mashbill, which got us telling you all about them. Rye whiskeys must be made with a minimum of 51% rye, which can be accompanied by other grains such as corn, malted barley, and wheat. This rye right here doesn't stick to the bare minimum though, in fact it boasts a whopping 83.8% rye in its mash bill, bolstered by 11.4% corn, and 4.8% malted barley. Partially finished in sherry casks, this is a cracking example of what rye whiskey is all about, one to satisfy mixologists and neat sippers alike.
Mellow, sweet, and buttery with plenty of robust spicy rye. Peppercorns and a touch of green chilli are joined by notes of hickory and spiced barbecue glaze.
Sweet golden syrup and rye spice balance while buttered corn nestles beneath, and warming notes of green capsicum develop over time.
A touch of liquorice joins vanilla and candied almonds, with lingering notes of bold oak char, buttered rye bread, carraway, and nutmeg.
As a whiskey fan for many years, whether decent single malt or irish whisky and there are lots of quality blend too! A couple of years back I started my bourbon journey, love bulleit, evan williams, four roses then naturally tried rye whisky! Best so far, bulleit, ragtime, knob creek even lot 40( Canadian) THEN I tried MASHBILL, it is so smooth really spicy and wow, it has to be the best ive tasted so far. At about £38 uk it brilliant value. Purchased it many times since ,same reaction
On the bottle it states spicy, the tasting notes say spicy, and guess what...........it is very spicy. This is a full in your face Rye, with plenty of Rye flavour. If you like a good Rye, you have to try it. The tasting notes are spot on, and I do get some ginger. I have already ordered another bottle (ordered before writing review). Kev Doncaster
