Alas, this whisky isn't really from the planet Mars, but from the Mars Shinshu distillery, which is just as exciting! It is Japan's highest whisky distillery at just under 800 metres, so it's nearly made it to space. 'Kasei' is the Japanese word for Mars, and the whisky is made from a blend of both malt and grain whiskies, married from a variety of barrels.
White flowers and ripe white stone fruit, with just a whisper of smoke.
Fresh green apple intertwined with light smoky notes, a drizzle of fragrant honey alongside waffles with caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream.
Vanilla and citrus on the finish, think lemon tart.
Had it from the Japanese Advent calendar. Perfectly pleasant but unexceptional. Slightly raw finish so a bit young.
I agree with a previous review, very smooth, I get the tasting notes dome smoke, caramel bur strange hot finish.
Nose: Floral with a slight vanilla note Palate: Fruity, light but without a lot of depth or anything that stands out Finish: Short and again, nothing that really stands out but a tad peppery spice on the tail
Nose - lightly floral and smokey. Not much distinct. Palate - light. Fruity tones, light smokey, I can see honey and vanilla. Finish - Vanilla. Not getting much citrus. Kinda short. It's perfectly drinkable - smooth, light, no faults. But it feels like they blended any sort of distinctive character out of the dram.
I like this Whisky, it's got a nice clean taste but with a bite at the back end. It mixes well and has a medium colour. I would be happy to buy this again.
