Very pleasant for a change
My usual dram is a good Scottish malt but now and again I venture into the world of American whiskey - just for a change. In the past I've enjoyed Wild turkey 101, Woodford Reserve, Rittenhouse and Makers Mark to name a few. I saw this MM46 and was tempted to give it a try and I am glad I did. It's a BIG whiskey, full of vanilla, caramel and spices and smooth enough to drink straight, even at 47%. As the summary says: very pleasant for change. Very pleasant indeed.

A delicious dram for cold nights by the fire.
My favorite under $50 whisky. Absolutely delicious. Toffee, vanilla, carmel, & cola. The red winter wheat creates a unique full bodied flavor profile that is very drinkable when relaxing by the fire. No burning from this dram, instead there is a nice warmth when it hits the stomach that's coupled with a smooth finish that leaves plenty to reflect on. A step up from plain old Makers, delicious in it's own right, but the 46 takes it a few steps further. I've sampled many whiskys under $50 and this is my favorite. Makers 46 will always have a special place in my cabinet.

No obvious negatives, but disappointingly ordinary
It's...OK. Perfectly drinkable, but really nothing special. It's almost as though some spicy smoke has been crudely bolted onto the flavour of regular Maker's.
It's fine. I'll drink all of it. But I was looking forward to something special from this. However, if you told me it was a standard bottling to go alongside Beam white, Heaven Hill Old Old Style, Old Forester, etc, then I'd believe you.

Nice sipping bourbon, all you need is a big rock!
