Maker's Mark is a world-famous bourbon whisky produced in Loretto, Kentucky. The brand is known for its red wax seal, which is said to be applied by hand to each bottle.
A brilliant whisky (note: Maker's Mark is one of just a few distilleries in the US to spell whisky sans the "e"!) it is made to a mashbill first developed by Bill Samuels Sr, which uses red winter wheat instead of rye. The result, therefore, can be described as a "wheated bourbon", and it's all the more smooth and creamy because of it!
Fruity and rich. There are lovely notes of spiced honey and mixed peels, a little malmsey, hazelnut and a touch of cut fruit with toasty oak providing a backbone.
Rich and full. There are notes of rye and spice, barley malt, a little nut oil with butterscotch and vanilla.
Quite sweet with butterscotch and dry oak spice.

I like this! Really nice on the rocks but a bit overpriced in my country
I'm not very good at distinguishing the flavours, but I have to admit on this one that there's a distinct plastic nose. Maybe because the ladies around the tank managed to get that flavour in as they were sealing the bottle. My usual problem, the whiskey's just washed out any taste, and I unfortunately ended up with burn of alcohol. After about 5 minutes I had some taste, but I had already reached for the 99% cocoa chocolate by that time. At the second taste with a very small vol sip, I again got disappointed. Sorry Makers, but you gotta wash your hands before making the next bottle.
The very Knowledgeable person in both wine and spirits is in fact in murky water. As a scotch drinker I find the odd bourbon rather lovely . Especially in winter and after a long surf . I find makers unpretentious tasty and cheap . Buy some
I’ve tried many bourbons and quite frankly I’ve never met a bourbon that I didn’t like. Makers Mark is hand down my favourite. The nose is so welcoming. The flavours are complex. This is a very versatile whisky. I drink it neat, rocks, or when I fancy a mix drink.
A surprisingly complex and very drinkable bourbon, one I enjoy as a sipping whiskey and in Old Fashioneds. At just over £20 for a bottle, it's great quality for the money.
