Maker's Mark is a world-famous bourbon whisky produced in Loretto, Kentucky. The brand is known for its red wax seal, which is said to be applied by hand to each bottle.
A brilliant whisky (note: Maker's Mark is one of just a few distilleries in the US to spell whisky sans the "e"!) it is made to a mashbill first developed by Bill Samuels Sr, which uses red winter wheat instead of rye. The result, therefore, can be described as a "wheated bourbon", and it's all the more smooth and creamy because of it!
Fruity and rich. There are lovely notes of spiced honey and mixed peels, a little malmsey, hazelnut and a touch of cut fruit with toasty oak providing a backbone.
Rich and full. There are notes of rye and spice, barley malt, a little nut oil with butterscotch and vanilla.
Quite sweet with butterscotch and dry oak spice.
I usually buy this when it's on offer, but to be fair, it's not a bad bourbon for the money so don't mind cracking a bottle amongst friends on a sunny day. It's got a mixture of sweetness and spiciness which makes it a good beginners bourbon.
I avoided this bourbon for quite a while expecting it to be the same mass produced crap as Jack Daniel's Old No.7 but it was on offer and I thought "Why not?" Upon first nosing and tasting the bourbon. Wow. Incredible. It is not complex but not too simple either. It has relatively few notes but the notes work so well together and are at just the right amount of intensity. It is very vanilla heavy which I love, too. This bottle will now be a staple on my shelf and I am looking forward to trying their other expressions but mainy the barrel strength bourbon.
More of a whisky than a bourbon. Has a certain bite that’s absence from bourbons. A pleasant compromise of the two different takes on whisky.
I get the sourness of the malt, standard vanilla flavours, Glacé cherry and marzipan. Not a massive bourbon fan but enjoyed this. Neat at the moment but will try with ice, think it will be fantastic.
Nail polisher ethanol. 40,90 euro 0,7l. however products at this price point has the same problem. It depends tho how you taste it. It has good whiskey aftertaste and bourbon bite.
