An extra special single malt from the young Lowlands-based Lochlea distillery – bottled up exclusively for Master of Malt! The distillery was commissioned in 2018 and this whisky was distilled in its first year of operation, and filled into a first-fill bourbon barrel in March 2019. A total of 242 bottles were drawn from the cask in 2023, without added colour or chill filtration, and at a robust cask strength of 60.2% ABV.
It’s a punchy whisky that’s for sure. But enjoyable nonetheless. On the nose it’s incredibly good. Good strong flavors on the plate and the finish just gos on and on..
This is a gorgeous whisky. I first had the cask strength batch one Lochlea with the Summerton whisky club and it quickly became my favourite whisky. On this basis I wanted to see how they’d fare with purely ex-Bourbon casks. I am pleased to say this is just as successful. This is definitely a distillery to keep your eye on. If whisky this young can be this good, they’ve got something going for them.

Big fan of Lochlea, this bottling is one of best at 60.2% it’s a big hitter either straight or with a wee drop of water, it’s a fantastic dram
