It's the 2021 release of The Open Special Edition from Loch Lomond! Whisky and golf fans, rejoice. It was created in partnership with professional Scottish golfer Colin Montgomerie, matured in three different types of American oak casks, before being finished and married in virgin American oak.
Crisp pear, honey, and building wood spice, with a suggestion of smoke.
Woody vanilla pod, nectarine, and bursts of white grape, bolstered by fragrant smokiness.
A smoky, oaky finish, with a drizzle of golden syrup alongside green apple.

A pale amber, this whisky has a lovely, deep fruit and vanilla scent. Apples, a hint of black berries and a very gentle light bonfire smoke. Very clingy in the glass too suggesting some older casks are in here. In the mouth the first impact is a rich fudge like butterscotch, then you are hit with a deep ginger spice, a real mouth tingler this one. The finish is quite long and warming, the vanilla notes combine with a tiny bit of chilli heat alongside that very gentle smoke again. It's a very pleasant dram, not going to set the world on fire, but for the price it's excellent value for money, and possibly a good one to give someone who has never had a whisky with any smoke in at all.
