Loch Lomond
Scotland
Single Malt
12-year-old single malt Scotch whisky from Loch Lomond, who are well known for being able to produce a wide variety of styles of whisky in their Highland distillery. This particular expression was made using the distillery's unique straight-neck stills and more traditional swan-neck stills, and aged in a selection of bourbon, refill and recharged American oak casks.
Creamy vanilla, with a touch of freshly baked apple turnover.
Brown sugar and five-spice. Orchard fruit notes continue, with a hint of yellow plum too.
Quite drying with subtle woody smoke, though still sweet with vanilla.
I have no idea what these other guys are drinking. I think this is a superb scotch, especially for the price! Nose:Spicy with Pungent stone/orchard fruit dominant on the nose with a whiff of smoke. Palette:Fuller bodied Spice comes through with a nice bouquet of those orchard fruits that showed up in the nose. The barrell char comes through in the back as a nice drying (albeit short) finish.
This is my current favourite evening dram. I have tried many whiskies and have over &0 different bottles in my collection, but I adore this. It’s complex, but smooth and deeply satisfying. As others have said, it does need to breathe and actually improves as you work your way down the bottle. It’s not a beginner’s Whisky, but very rewarding to spend time with. If you understand Whisky you will be very impressed with this. Great value as well!
Seriously, these reviews are so funny. One gentlemen says “give it time...I opened it and now that it has been sitting a month and I am half way done with the bottle, it tastes great.” A month? To drink a bottle of Scotch? Nope. Sorry. If I can’t drink the bottle over a week, it’s gone.
This is the first scotch I have not enjoyed in a while. There is a medicine undertone with hints of sweet oak that quickly turn to bitter. Unfortunately, the bitter is the definitive layer that lingers. It actually made me gag a little. I could have bought a smooth Glenmoragie 10 for 10$ less.
Poured over some ice, a delicious round warm whisky, I love it
