High Commissioner is a blend of various malt and grain whiskies. It's actually not that bad, with a pretty decent balance of flavour.
Excellent whisky at this price
Sipping this next to Whyte and Mackay in 2023 there's no question this is the better whisky. Whyte and Mackay used to be good but has slipped in quality recently . High commissioner tastes cleaner without that overly used barrel taste W&M now has and there's a definite touch of peat which makes it more interesting.
For the price it's an excellent mixer , it's also brilliant on its own or with a little water , ice. Full natural well balanced flavour , yes repeat this really is good enough to drink on its own , some cheap whiskeys are crap , this is not.
Brilliant whisky. Can't believe it's so cheap for its quality. Better than some single malts. Full of flavour. Can't fault it.
Same as a few other reviewers I had this on the train down to London and it was surprisingly pleasant, I was immediately caught of guard with the slightly similar aroma to Demerara rums I've had previously and enjoyed the slightly fruity and smoky palate.
