Rare stuff indeed. This was distilled at Mannochmore from 1996 to '97. This 10 year old is known as "The Black Whisky", so named for its very dark appearance. The producers attribute the colour to the use of double charred casks. Perhaps there's a drop or two of spirit caramel in the equation. Regardless, this is quite a collectible, even if it's not particularly well-regarded by critics.

During university, I was fortunate to purchase a bottle back in 96 for 40 USD. I took my time with this bottle, enjoying it for over 20 years. Oftentimes a forgotten treat; also relished sharing with family and friends, and watching their reactions. Most were fortunately negative, which I attribute to the bottle's longevity. I think it was something you had to let grow on you. Over the years, it aged fine, moving towards a more pronounced caramel finish. Like most others, I wish I had purchased a case.
A wonderful and supremely smooth drop that paired well with a good Honduran or Nicaraguan cigar. I loved the richness of it and the unique flavors, heavy on malt and cocoa. PLEASE FIND A WAY TO SHIP IT TO THE STATES once again!
Fantastic tasting experience, so smooth and rare. But would definitely recommend on the rocks
This stuff is unbelievable, so smooth,so complex...wish it was still available in store!
I find it far too strong in dark flavour, treacly, dark roasted malts. On its own it is a difficult whisky. But I sometimes use just a dash in a lighter Speyside malt to produce a different drink altogether. My single bottle is half way done now and only rarely and sparingly used.
