Rare stuff indeed. This was distilled at Mannochmore from 1996 to '97. This 10 year old is known as "The Black Whisky", so named for its very dark appearance. The producers attribute the colour to the use of double charred casks. Perhaps there's a drop or two of spirit caramel in the equation. Regardless, this is quite a collectible, even if it's not particularly well-regarded by critics.

Disgusting but my 3 unopened bottles are reputedly worth around £1000 so I am not complaining!!
I found this in my wet bar, half gone. I don't remember when or where I got this but is holding up well. Still very nice with sweet notes, overall very smooth.
I have had two bottles of loch Dhu. I cannot understand the bad crit in some of the reviews other than maybe something else in a Loch Dhu bottle. Loch Dhu black whisky is like drinking silk sooo smooth no harshness or afterburner absolutely delicious . Now looking for a third bottle.
I tried his whiskey for the first time this evening in the Alexander Bar at the Grande Bretagne hotel in Athens. This whiskey in my opinion is pretty awful. My first smell before tasting was of liquorice and it seemed interesting so I bought a glass. A mouthfull of this whiskey is enough and the old saying that curiosity killed the cat came to my mind. This whiskey is so bitter that it is almost medecinal, therefor destroying your palate. In most whiskeys there is a particular characteristic that I like and can take on board. Unfortunately with this bottle of Black whiskey there is nothing that I like.
I was looking for a Scotch Whisky to sauté shrimp with and gave this a try.It was good for cooking but not so much for drinking.Used it in the kitchen for ten years.
