Single Malt
Scotland
1 Jan 2019

10 year old single malt from the lovely Linkwood Distillery in Speyside, independently bottled by James Eadie. It was matured in a pair of casks - one of them a first-fill bourbon cask, the other a refill hogshead cask. Kind of sounds like a buddy cop movie set in a world where everyone is a whisky cask... Anyway. It was aged for a decade before being bottled with an outturn of 651 bottles.
Cornflakes with milk and sugar, soft cinnamon heat, banana chips.
Slightly grassy at first, but soon enough develops notes of iced bun, apricot jam and fudge.
Honey on toast, cacao and sultana.

I've always enjoyed Linkwood and have had many different editions in my collection. This youthful bottling from James Eadie is excellent. It's got a good starting point - no added colour, non-chillfiltered and 46%. It's a lovely subtle flowery dram, sweet and fruity with a long and pleasant finish. Very smooth undiluted but a drop of water improved the flavour for me. Sold out now and I'm not surprised. Wish I'd bought two!
