    Laphroaig Oak Select

For the Laphroaig Oak Select, the Islay distillery has taken whisky from a number of different types of cask, including oloroso sherry butts, white American oak, Pedro Ximenez seasoned hoggies, quarter casks, and first-fill bourbon casks. Quite a selection, wouldn't you say? A laid-back addition to the Laphroaig core range of single malts.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Classic, medicinal peat notes up front, supported by citrus-y, chocolate-y sweet notes and soft barley.

    Palate

The peat is there, but it's taking it easy and letting the bright notes of lemon, green apples and mint stand out. Darker baking spice notes develop further on.

    Finish

Medium length, peat remaining in sight until it's over.

    Overall

It doesn't pack a huge punch of peat, which might be just the ticket for introducing someone to the wonders of Islay's smoky expressions.

    Simply bad

I read some positive reviews and decided to try. I'm very disapointed, maybe I expected too much, but this is bad. The worst Laphroiag I've ever tasted.

    Ignore the babies

After reading the whinging, whining of supposed whisky drinkers, I've had to come to Laphroaig's defence. Yes it does have the wonderful, medicinal hit that true whisky drinkers love, but it also has a lovely mellow linger on the tongue of honey. Stop crying about it all you out there moaning about the very thing that makes Laphroaig unique and write a song about how much you love milk!!!!

    Interesting

A lighter version of there 10yo. Personally I like it. If you haven’t tried laphroaig this is a good starting point. Be warned though, this style of whisky isn’t your standard and isn’t for everybody.

    Undrinkable

I have enjoyed my fair share of decent single malt whiskys over the years but I have to write this review as this is undrinkable. This not only smells and tastes like TCP it is that bad that I think I'm going to have to research how to dispose of this - something I've never done before even when a spirit hasn't exactly been to my taste. Some reviews liken this to Ardbeg or Talisker...I suggest you spend your money on these and don't damage your insides.

    An excellent peated whisky introduction

This has some of the smoke/peat flavour associated with Laphroaig but is missing the luxurious smoky scent I love, that said at times I prefer it to the 10 year single malt for its smooth, less peated flavour, think it is a great introduction whisky before trying more heavily peated ones that can be overwhelming.
