Smoke and sherry here from Laphroaig! The legendary distillery on the south coast of Islay has gone and released a fab 10 year old single malt Scotch whisky which has been finished in Oloroso sherry casks for over 12 months, and bottled up at 48% ABV. Alongside the familiar, intensely peaty elements of Laphroaig's classic 10 Year Old expression, you'll also find helpings of dark chocolate and maple syrup notes in this one's flavour profile. Yum!
Smoked meats, maple syrup, BBQ lemon, charred oak, a smidge of coffee.
More roasted cedar and peat smoke, with a hint of iodine tucked away. Dark chocolate, honey, and vanilla pod.
A balanced finish of sherried sweetness and smouldering peat.

The nose is intense, the medicinal peat mixing with the fruity honied sherry to create an almost 'sweet and savoury' hit. Think BBQ meats in a brown sugar glaze, Christmas ham with honey. It's powerful, sweet and meaty. Some maple syrup glazed smoked bacon I had once comes immediately to mind. It's spicy and rich in the mouth, the peat is strong no doubt, but under that there's loads of dried dark fruit, a little vanilla and a huge coffee and bitter chocolate sensation. The finish is quite long, honey and vanilla with a deep oak and wood influence. The sherry lasts for ages on the tongue. If you like sweet smoked BBQ then you've found your heaven, and as a fan of that myself I can find a lot to like here too.
Delicious! A really good sherried Laphroaig. Typical Laphroaig with a lovely, contrasting sweetness. Leave to oxidise for 10 minutes and it's fabulous. Pleased with the 48% abv compared to the "normal" 40% offerings from Laphroaig and great price too. Would've rated 5 stars if it wasn't for the added colouring...c'mon Laphroaig, natural colour please
Amazing balance of smoke and sweet with a long finish. Syrup and jam on the nose with a little hint of leather. Oily on the palate with the peaty goodness complimented by coffee, charred red meat and vanilla. Sweet, smoky finish. A real rockstar of a dram!
They know how to charge, but it's fucking good to be able to finally get a sherried Laphroaig. Well done.
