Lagavulin 12 Year Old (Special Release 2015)

Lagavulin 12YO 2015 Bottling Note

The least expensive of the 2015 Diageo Special Releases (as the unpeated Caol Ila was a 17 year old), the 12 year old is now a staple and a firm whisky fan favourite, this being the thirteenth release in the series.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Very sooty, warm lemon rather than zestiness. Warming, rounded wood spice. Water livens up proceedings.

Palate: Plenty of peat smoke, oatcakes and salted caramel richness.

Finish: Dry and sooty.

Overall: Clean as well as dusty (pretty sure that does make sense in this case) - the most affordable Special Release of 2015 and always worth getting hold of.

Lagavulin 12 Year Old (Special Release 2015) Reviews

Excellent !

It's been couple of years that i'm trying to get that product in Quebec. Unable to get it, I went for the Ardbeg Uigeadail; which I tought was better. That is because I forgot the taste of this amazing dram. Peat, smoke and saltiness. You can feel the Islay coast through that dram. Super smooth even at this high alcool level. That being said, Ardbeg still remains in my top 5.

Overrated

Yes it's good but not as good as the old 2002-4 Lag 16. Personally I like Ardbeg Uigeadail more when it is good. This said bottlings vary greatly whereas the Lag 2015 12 is Uniform with good quality control and unusual complexity for a lag 12x It lacks the basso deep peaty goodness of a strong Uigie but that is splitting hairs somewhat.
