Knockando
Scotland
Single Malt
The 1994 vintage 21 year old Master Reserve expression from the wonderful Knockando distillery which lies near the River Spey. A gorgeous single malt matured in bourbon and Sherry casks, with loads of honey and vanilla notes all the way through.
Ginger, oak spice, ice cream and pralines.
Almond and clove, with a touch of Sherried raisin. Honey-covered apples.
More honey, with a little touch of spearmint.

Bought is a special edition 'La Route Des Saveurs'. Beautifully complex with the influence of oak. Very sweet and fruity with delicious finish. Good to keep as a part of collection.
How Mr. Murray gave it 96.5 ! I don't know, whilst Mr. Valentin gave it 80! Go figure! Anyways... back to the matter at hand. Something is not quite "right' here. There is an overt vanilla sweetness that may have been influenced by over-powering American oak, and unfortunately, it dominates. Consequently, it loses a number of marks due to the ordinary in-house cask management and blending. The distillate is excellent, so I rate this 89/100.
I prefer usually peated whiskies, but sometimes I need a bottle from Speyside or Highlands. This one is the best non peated whisky that I have drunk so far. Honey, figs, honey. raisins, honey, dates, honey, Christmas spices. Did I mention honey? This bottle will be for very special occasions, and I will definitely buy another one.
A beautiful smooth whisky with an almost creamy aftertaste; my partner also loved its well-aged, smooth creaminess. If I had my way, I would tone down that creaminess just a notch, but it's still a delightful dram.
