Knob Creek Rye boasts a high corn mash bill, bringing with it a flavour profile that strikes a wonderful balance between your classic, spicy rye whiskeys and your sweeter, vanilla-fuelled high-rye-content bourbons. Matured for seven years in deeply charred barrels and bottled at a robust 50% ABV (100 proof), it'll shine in the likes of a Manhattan or an Old Fashioned, or simply sip it neat and appreciate its layers of vanilla, browned butter, and spice.
Rich caramel, bright ginger and lingering menthol hints, with more herbaceous touches developing with the robust rye notes. A good core of oak spice, too.
Traditional rye spiciness, rich and mouth-coating, but not as overpowering as some other rye whiskey. Instead, there's more development of the vanilla, brown sugar and soft butter notes.
Drying oak, white pepper and rye spice last on the finish.
Thought I would give this a re-visit. Read a blog from a whiskey reviewer who gave it 2.5 stars. Harsh I thought. Oh my was I wrong and him spot on. For a sipper this is nowhere worth the penny.
I think it’s one of the best stuff what I tried in this year. Prefect quality, balanced, full body~ Mid oily, very smooth, elegant, creamy, sweetness and finish is quite long~ It’s very successful. I really don’t know why I didn’t drink this one before. Now, I found you.
I don’t generally like Rye!! Until this one. Being honest - quirky name prompted purchase as a cocktail gift for friends 50th - Manhattans!! But Blimey. I’m really impressed. For the ‘nothing special’ reviewer - I’d love to know what is - because in my opinion for a 50% abv rye this is extraordinary in flavour, quite sweet and a lovely velvety mouth feel, and well balanced avoiding being overwhelming. Good effort chaps!! I’d definitely suggest having a bottle. This review was posted during my visit to buy another bottle for myself!!
Vanilla and a bit of spice. Easy drinking but nothing special. //E
Don't drink this. It's terrible. Leave more for me... thinking pikesville next, just need a doable alternative rye that people seem to like.
