This is the 11th batch of Kilkerran Heavily Peated single malt from Campbeltown's Glengyle distillery. Drawn from a selection of 90% bourbon and 10% sherry casks, this edition was bottled at a robust 57.9% ABV.
In typical Kilkerran style, there is a citrus element on the nose with notes of lemon and key lime pie, along with touches of toasted rye bread and peat smoke.
There are notes of toasted marshmallows and campfire embers immediately on the palate, with hints of vanilla and custard.
The smokiness carries through to the finish, along with a mineral note to round off this dram.

If you like your steak bloody and your cheese hard then you might like this whisky. It's underaged to the point of tasting a bit like tequila. The smell has vapors that remind you of chemicals rather than whisky. The more people gravitate to Scotch, calling it "moorish," the more the distilleries will be tempted to age their barrels for less and less time, until most whiskies end up like this one: really good for rubbing on wounds but not so good to sip, unless you are on a budget and are able to buy this on the primary market and not the later secondary overpriced middle men retailers. For 38 pounds how could anyone complain? For 60-80 pounds there are way better options out there.
The "Heavily peated" part weren't a lie, -thick- wonderful peat, combined with that amazing sweet Kilkerran note is to die for! I would guess, since it's a NAS, that it's not very old. But the peat covers the youthness. Oh, this is beautiful!
A proper substantial whisky, not peaty like an Islay, more like a smokey Speysider. I get a whiff of bacon on the nose. Easy drinking despite the high abv and equal (perhaps even better) to an Ardbeg Uigidal at £20 less. A real, robust bargain like all Kilkerrans.

Rich and flavourful. Really opens up with water. Strong flavours of peat and malt.
