Thisbottling of Belgian single malt from Kempisch Vuur (which translates Campian Fire) was distilled in May 2016. The lightly peated whisky was then matured for three years in quarter casks which previously housed Laphroaig. Though young, this whisky boasts a bold amount of complexity.
White fruits, fresh hay and oodles of rich buttery caramel, with subtle smokiness and just a hint of plasticine.
Full bodied mouthfeel, slightly oily with unmistakable peat and a pinch of rock salt, alongside rich earthy notes, somewhat muddy. Cooking apple tanginess is complimented by warming cinnamon spice.
Sweet and smoky notes intertwined, while the spice lingers on a long finish.
A delightfully youthful yet complex whisky to whet my peaty appetite.
