Journey is the entry level expression from the Isle of Jura range (which was relaunched in mid-2018). It was aged exclusively in American white oak ex-bourbon barrels and bottled at 40% ABV. A tasty introduction to Jura's single malts.

Nice, plenty of characters, a little rough here and there.

Nose: fresh cut damp timber, fruity pastry, also something dry underneath. Palate: pear drops, hint of aniseed, echos of coffee, occasionally harsh. Finish: long, dry oak saw dust, a little cigar, longer still.

very good at pricepoint

first taste straight out of bottle was a little wersh as many whiskies can be. a little air and a teaspoon of o2 and its transformed. it took many years to make so give it a little time in the glass. stone fruits and nuts in this; a bit of charred oak too. quite decent now and for price a very good whisky.. stars relate to quality at price struth

Hmm...not what I expected

I have enjoyed sampling a wide range of whiskys in the last few years and often follow the tasting notes on this web page as a great baseline. I have however found it difficult to enjoy the Jura Journey. I took to looking through some of the reviews here and unfortunately agree with the few who have found it 'harsh' and 'bitter'. I wonder if there is some variability in this entry level expression. I have had better Jura whiskys.

A good whisky for the price

I've had a few bottles of this now (over a long period of time, not just today!) and I must say that it's an interesting bottle. I pick up on the nose and tasting notes mentioned above as well as what jura say on their website, depending on where I am on the bottle. Generally speaking, jura website description for the forst 3rd, the MoM description for the rest - keeps it interesting. Better whiskies? Definitely but at this price, this jura is one of the best without age expression (with some water)

Strange spread

Reading the reviews I can only guess that there is a bit of a lottery going on here with the bottles. The bottle we drank (and enjoyed) was a buttery caramel treat. Not one to take loads of time over but very drinkable indeed.
