Single Malt
Whisky Sponge Edition No.97 from Decadent Drinks is a corker of a single malt, a 30-year-old, 1994 vintage Jura whisky aged in a single refill hogshead cask and bottled at a cask strength of 46% ABV. This expression is paired with Whisky Sponge Edition No.96: a 2005 vintage Bruichladdich whisky also presented at cask strength.
Here's what the brand had to say on both: "Both these casks spent their entire life maturing at their respective distilleries on their islands of origin. As we hit the final run of our Whisky Sponge series, we wanted to focus on and celebrate the distilleries and profiles we really love. And there aren’t many places as close to our hearts as Islay and Jura. We deliberately looked for two single casks from these two beautiful Islands which were both unpeated and which had both matured fully on the Islands. We are pretty delighted with the results, and we feel it forms part of a fitting final run of Sponges."
This is pure, distillate-driven, old-school, charismatic, well-aged Jura. Like a bone-dry, old Chenin Blanc, it is pure, mineral, waxy, herbaceous and complex whisky that balances delicacy and elegance with vivid coastal and Island character.
