    Single Malt

Jura 21 Year Old - Tide

A stunning release from Jura, Tide is a 21 year old single malt with a dual maturation, released as part of the Aged Vintage series. Firstly, the whisky rested in American white oak bourbon barrels before it was transferred to hand-selected virgin American white oak casks, which imparted a slightly more spicy character. It was finally bottled at 46.7% ABV in a frosted glass bottle, along with a pretty funky presentation box.

    Exceptional

This is my favorite whisky of all time. Very smooth palate and nose, lovely caramel notes, slight sweetness for me with an oak back note.

Wonderful smell with a little flatness thereafter

Very interesting- the sweet smell I get is freshly spun candy floss and a tiny hint of something fruity that I can't quite place. I suppose banana is a reasonable approximation as mentioned but not with strong conviction. Perhaps a raisin-and-flower-soaked banana? Lovely anyway and very definitely sweet but complex. Taste wise I predominantly taste barrel oak with some element of orange chocolate liquor. The sharpness of orange is much more apparent if left in the mouth for longer. By comparison to the smell I would say that it is nothing like as beautiful or complex. The finish is predominantly bitter oak and not much else for me. Obviously take this with a pinch of salt- you may very much taste something different to me. But ultimately I would say the smell alone is divine, while that divinity unfortunately dissipates. Not a bad whisky though!
