Jura 18 Year Old

At the peak of the Jura distillery's core range (relaunched in mid-2018) sits the Isle of Jura 18 Year Old. This expression aged in American white oak ex-bourbon barrels before enjoying a finishing period in Premier Grand Cru Classé Bordeaux barrels, imparting a rich fruitiness. Top stuff for late evening dramming.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose Cinnamon, dried berries, Wine Gums, hickory.

Palate Brandied cherries, Turkish delight, milky coffee and blackcurrant jam.

Finish Chocolate chip cookies, a touch of hay, orange oil.

Reviews for Jura 18 Year Old
Jura Single Malt 18yo
This is a super bottle of Whisky which I am thoroughly enjoying. It was well priced on Black Friday, and worth every penny.

Soft, fresh air and subtle
An inexpensive offering from the popular Jura distillery. Many would class it as a 15/16yr old on tasting, however the subtle fire that the pallette awaits is far from disappointing. Well rounded, you a hit by flavour initially which gives way to a very beautiful, smooth and lingering dram.

Since first tasting it a few years ago, I wouldn't be without a bottle.

A smooth and complex dram, lingers on the tounge. Beautiful. Quite a step up from other Jura bottlings.

Good if underwhelming
An OK Dram, but as a regular drinker of the Jura 12 YO, I could not see why this deserved to cost double the 12 YO. It does not assert that it is free from colour or chill filtration, so that might account for some lack of character

Other favourites are the Highland Park 18 and Royal Brackla 18. Glenlivet 18 used to be great, but I think they have now diluted it, fortunately I still have some of the original.
I would still rate the Jura 18 above the dyed & filtered Glenfiddich 18

Soft and warm
I bought a bottle about 60 euros from Stockholm. It was sale of the century. This is very good, soft and warm. Finish is long and solid. Definitely will buy again.

Good batch. may be different for others
Got a good batch. Very oaky and smooth and really easy to drink. albeit the 21 is too similar in taste to recommend over the 18 but i've heard jura varies depending on the batch

Wrong, very wrong, and a rip-off as well.
OMG is this disappointing, for double+ the price of Jura's reliably good 10 year old. Suspiciously grappa-esque nose leads right into a rough, vegetal palate. Sure, there are some sweet notes, caramel, etc., but unbalanced and a bitter finish. Definite oxidized wine cork in there, too. I fully agree with the other 1-star reviews -- "No. Just no", "Oh dear - oh dear …", "Finished? Don't Get Me Started!" -- all call it right. That is to say, Jura 18 is wrong, very wrong. And a rip-off as well.

Remarkably unremarkable
I give it 2.5 stars because for an 18 year old whisky, it is priced reasonably.
But in terms of the quality of the whisky I can't help but feel that I'm being overly generous.
I'm not saying it tastes bad, in fact I could possibly stretch to describing it as fairly pleasant.

Put bluntly, the most remarkable thing about this whisky is how unremarkable they've made it - for an 18 year old to be this uninteresting is quite a feat.

Perhaps if Jura stopped releasing so many variations of their whisky with most appealing to the mass market and instead focused on releasing quality ones then this may be a different story.

They have quality whisky to offer - hopefully we can taste it one day.

Value for money
Nice thing, considering the price. Just a bit sweet and a bit smoky. Smooth.

A solid four star.
I’m fascinated by those who have polarized views of this whiskey. Lots of 5s and 1s. Count me as a 4. The flavor profile is balanced, if a bit on the sweet side, albeit in a good way. It is not a deeply complex whiskey, but it is thoroughly enjoyable and makes and excellent evening quaff. It’s not a world beater, but it’s also not the dog overs describe. A fair buy.
