Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Sweet rich and deep notes with maraschino cherries, toffee caramel, vanilla, baked rhubarb crumble and a very thin whiff of smoke.

    Palate

The richness continues onto the palate, which is sweet and warming, with creamy malt, oats and cereal. A spicy vanilla cinnamon dusting too with the gentle smoke again developing.

    Finish

    Dark chocolate with caramalised peel.

    Overall

Another pleasing blend from Johnnie Walker, this is quite different from the gold label.

    Nice, but over priced!

Wasn't very impressed at all when 1st opened. It was harsh & had a bitter alcohol after taste, but after a couple of days of being opened it mellowed out quite a bit. The harshness & after taste both gone & now had a little bit of smoke to it. Nice. All in all not a bad dram but way over priced at $150+ a bottle here. Half of that I think is for the packaging. But when compared side by side with the old 18 Gold it doesn't stand a chance! The 18 Gold was a far superior whisky by far. This would only be a match to the old Green Label.

Rich creamy undertones a richer tasting drink I would put it along side the blue label as a very good companion

    Gold is still the standard

I've had them all and nothing compares to the Gold Reserve. Blue is great, as is Green. Both are better than Platinum, which tastes hotter than its 80 proof would lead you to believe. It's good Scotch, but I've yet to see JW top the Gold.

    My new favourite Whisky

I've tried a few different single malts over the last couple of years. All have been priced around the $100 mark . The platinum is clearly my favourite. Smooth, a hint of smoky tones which suits my taste. This is a great drink to relax with at home after a long day.
