    Johnnie Walker Blue Label

The Johnnie Walker Blue Label story begins in 1987 when the Distillers Company launched Johnnie Walker Oldest. It quickly became known as Blue Label, for obvious reasons, and was a blend of rare malt and grain whiskies bottled without an age statement with stylishly retro packaging that echoed the 19th century Johnnie Walker bottle.

Though expensive, or perhaps because it was expensive, it proved an instant hit. By 1997, it was selling 50,000 cases globally. As a known currency throughout the world, it’s perhaps the ultimate gift whisky. You know you’ve done a good job or your in-laws approve when you receive a bottle.

Blue Label is drawn from unparalleled Diageo reserves of maturing malt and grain whiskies from across four regions (Highland, Lowland, Speyside, and Islay), including ghost distilleries, that Johnnie Walker has privileged access to. Whatever the exact blend, a consistent flavour profile that’s a beautiful balance of rich, slightly smoky, and fruity elements.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Fragrant with good body. Notes of oak, crisp spice, dried fruit, pastries. Berry fruits, aniseed, hints of cedar, a touch of spice and citrus.

    Palate

Supple and balanced. Good toffee and hints of very wistful smoke. Chocolate, hints of grass and a good hit of malt.

    Finish

Floral, oaky, good length, urged on by a plume of very well-kept, highland style smoke. Dried fruit, spice, honey.

    Overall

One of the ultimate premium blends, Blue Label is a legend in its own right and will continue to be.

Believe the hype, Buy the Single Malts...

I was lucky enough to have a few samples of JWBL earlier. It is extremely smooth...so much so that I found myself searching for the whisky. At this price point you really have to make a strong argument for JWBL because one could buy Ardbeg 10, Lagavulin 16 and a bottle of Laphroaig Quarter Cask if one is an Islayphile and be much, much more satisfied. As far as Blue goes though it is excellent and no you are not paying "just for the label". The 7 rating would be an 8.5 however this whiskey's price point puts it in direct competition with some seriously big name single malts.

What This Whisky Means To You

To the person below. Reviews are subjective but if no one offered an opinion how would we ever know if anything was any good. Negative reviews are there for a reason to provide an opinion. So here's my honest review.Blue Label is an excellent dram. But it is not the ultimate. There are many many good whiskys that often get overlooked because of better marketing by their competitors. This is a perfect example of that. But you gotta hand it to Johnnie Walker some of the most well known Whisky aficionados give this a good review every time. And yes when I've tasted it year on year it is consistently good. Its pricey yes but the quality is always good. Not brilliant not amazing just good. If you want all the fanciness and a good dram buy this its a good whisky. If not look elsewhere. But if you've never tried blue label. Look for a smaller bottle buy it and Sláinte. Its a wonderful experience.

    and Dumber

I don't know why but I always read reviews. it's not like I need them for the most part. most of the time I've made my mind up. if I like something like a scotch and I want it then I buy it. it's funny to read all these idiot comments. people are either broke and can't afford this scotch or they tried it and they didn't like it. if you're someone that tried it and didn't like it then that's too bad. does that mean everyone that tries it won't like it? nope. does that mean people shouldn't drink it? nope. it's like people think their reviews actually mean something. they don't. just like what I'm writing right now doesn't. regardless of who you are and what you bring in each year if you've had this scotch and liked it then buy it. if you're soneone on the fence thinking about buying it then go ahead. if you are doing research on a liquor then hopefully you're smart enough and have the money to afford it and make your own decisions. I love this scotch. I also like many others scotches. never will I ever go to a website and post negative comments about a whisky that I purchased and didn't like. that's just dumb. I will however spend 10 minutes writing a review about the idiots that feel the need to give a whisky a bad review on a website. either you like it or you don't. if you don't then keep it to yourself because no one is listening. we're all different people and like different things so don't be ignorant enough to think this scotch was made for every scotch drinker out there. I guess people have an opinion because of the price. surely you tried it before buying a bottle. if you didn't then that's just dumb. with love Johnny Talker.

    Out Of The Blue

I dipped my $30 Arturo Anejo Reserva Viejo No.77 Cigar in this wonderful blend and simply enjoyed this great blend for New Year''s Eve. This bottle began my journey into the wonderful world of Whisky and cannot thank it enough for turning me to a world of sheer class.
